The Minister of Works, David Umahi, has revoked the contract for the Calabarโ€“Itu Highway after the contractor allegedly failed to meet key project obligations, including delivery timelines and performance benchmarks.

Umahi said the decision followed several warnings issued to the contractor over what he described as consistent underperformance and lack of visible progress on the critical road project. He noted that the government could no longer tolerate delays on a highway considered vital for economic activities across Cross River and Akwa Ibom.

According to the minister, the Federal Government will immediately begin the process of re-awarding the contract to a more competent firm with proven capacity. He emphasized that the administration is committed to ensuring that strategic infrastructure projects move forward without unnecessary setbacks.

Umahi assured road users that the ministry is working to close existing gaps so the Calabarโ€“Itu corridor can be completed within a reasonable timeframe, adding that Nigerians deserve quality work that meets engineering standards.
