United States President Donald Trump has ordered the U.S. Department of War to prepare for possible military action in Nigeria, citing what he described as the โmass killing of Christiansโ by Islamic terrorists.
Trump, in a post on his Truth Social account on Saturday, accused the Nigerian government of failing to act decisively against extremist violence and warned that Washington could halt all aid to Nigeria and intervene militarily if necessary.
โIf the Nigerian Government continues to allow the killing of Christians, the U.S.A. will immediately stop all aid and assistance to Nigeria, and may very well go into that now disgraced country, โguns-a-blazing,โ to completely wipe out the Islamic terrorists who are committing these horrible atrocities,โ Trump declared.
He said he had instructed the Department of War to prepare for โfast, vicious, and sweetโ action, warning that the Nigerian government must โmove fastโ to end the attacks.
This development comes a day after Trump redesignated Nigeria as a โcountry of particular concernโ (CPC) over alleged religious persecution and widespread violence against Christians.
Reacting, President Bola Tinubu rejected the move, insisting that Nigeria remains a democracy anchored on constitutional guarantees of religious freedom and belief.
