President Bola Tinubuโ€™s administration has begun diplomatic steps to calm tensions with the United States following recent threats by President Donald Trump over alleged attacks on Christians in Nigeria.

Presidential aides said Nigeria is open to U.S. assistance in combating terrorism, but only under the condition that the countryโ€™s sovereignty is respected. Officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the National Security Office have also been in contact with Washington to clarify Nigeriaโ€™s position and reinforce its commitment to protecting all citizens regardless of faith.

Government sources disclosed that Tinubu has ordered a review of Nigeriaโ€™s foreign missions and security structures as part of efforts to strengthen cooperation while maintaining national independence.

Meanwhile, the presidency rejected claims that Nigeria is religiously intolerant, describing Trumpโ€™s statement as โ€œunwarranted and misleading.โ€

Diplomatic observers say these steps are aimed at preventing a further escalation and restoring confidence between both nations.
