Taraba State Governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas, on Sunday formally resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and registered as a member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The governor announced his defection after weeks of political consultations, bringing an end to speculations surrounding his future in the PDP. His registration into the APC was carried out in the presence of party leaders and supporters, marking a major political shift in Taraba State.

Dr. Kefas explained that his decision was driven by the need to align Taraba State with the federal government in order to fast-track development projects and improve governance outcomes. He noted that his move was not based on personal ambition but on what he described as the collective interest of the people of the state.

According to the governor, cooperation with the party at the centre would strengthen access to federal interventions in infrastructure, security, healthcare and education. He assured residents that his administration would remain focused on inclusive governance and service delivery.

Reacting to the development, APC leaders welcomed the governor into the party, describing his defection as a boost to the partyโ€™s influence in the North-East. They pledged their support for his administration and expressed confidence that Taraba State would benefit from the new political alignment.

Meanwhile, the PDP is yet to issue an official statement on the defection, which is expected to reshape the political landscape of the state ahead of future elections.
