The Sokoto State Government has dismissed reports alleging that Governor Ahmed Aliyu accompanied Abia State Governor Alex Otti to visit the detained IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, at the Sokoto Custodial Centre.

In a statement signed by the governorโ€™s spokesman, Abubakar Bawa, the government clarified that Aliyu was in Saudi Arabia performing Lesser Hajj on 30th November 2025, the same period Otti privately visited Sokoto.

Bawa explained that Otti was received at the Sultan Abubakar III International Airport by selected commissioners and Special Advisers, who later escorted him to the Sokoto Government House for routine courtesies given to visiting governors.

He added that Sokoto people are naturally hospitable and treat all visitors with respect, regardless of tribe or religion.

The statement also reaffirmed Aliyuโ€™s loyalty to national unity, stressing that he remains committed to the Nigerian project and continues to be a peace-loving, law-abiding citizen.
