The Senate has confirmed Dr. Bernard Mohammed Doro as Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction following his nomination by President Bola Tinubu to replace Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, who now serves as the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress.

Doro, from Plateau State, was screened on Thursday in a session that lasted less than 30 minutes, as senators commended his qualifications and leadership record.

โ€œI will create a humanitarian ecosystem that is inclusive, guided by impartiality and independence,โ€ Doro pledged during his appearance before the lawmakers.

His confirmation came without objection, with the Senate instructing him to take a bow and leave after expressing satisfaction with his plans and credentials.

President Tinubu, in a letter read by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, requested Doroโ€™s confirmation under Section 147(2) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).

Presidential aide Bayo Onanuga described Doro as a seasoned professional with over two decades of experience in clinical practice, pharmaceutical management, and strategic leadership in Nigeria and the UK.

Born on January 23, 1969, in Kwall, Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State, Doro holds degrees in Pharmacy and Law, an MBA in IT-driven business strategy, and a Masterโ€™s in Advanced Clinical Practice.

He is also an Independent Prescriber and Advanced Clinical Practitioner with NHS frontline experience spanning urgent care, GP practices, and hospital services.

With the Senateโ€™s confirmation, Doro is expected to be sworn in as a member of the Federal Executive Council at its next meeting.
