A newly proposed salary structure for officers and men of the Nigerian military has emerged, outlining significant pay increases across all ranks, subject to approval and passage into law.

According to details shared on the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) information page, the proposed structure, if approved, would see junior and senior personnel earn substantially higher monthly salaries in recognition of their service and sacrifices.

Under the proposal, a Private would earn ₦300,000, while a Lance Corporal would receive ₦350,000. A Corporal is expected to earn ₦400,000, with a Sergeant earning ₦460,000. Staff Sergeants would take home ₦510,000, Warrant Officers (WO) ₦600,000, Master Warrant Officers (MWO) ₦680,000, and Army Warrant Officers (AWO) up to ₦890,000 monthly.

For commissioned officers, the proposal puts the salary of a Second Lieutenant at ₦510,000, Lieutenant ₦580,000, and Captain ₦690,000. A Major would earn ₦770,000, Lieutenant Colonel ₦850,000, and Colonel ₦970,000.

At the senior command level, the proposed structure lists Brigadier Generals at ₦1.5 million monthly, while Major Generals would earn up to ₦2.5 million.

The salary adjustment is yet to receive legislative backing and official confirmation from relevant government authorities. However, the proposal has already sparked conversations online, with many Nigerians insisting that improved welfare for the military is long overdue, given their role in national security and peacekeeping.

Supporters of the proposal argue that better remuneration would boost morale, professionalism and commitment within the armed forces, while awaiting the government
