Some leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have met with former President Olusegun Obasanjo as part of efforts to reposition the party ahead of a possible return to power in the 2027 general elections.

The meeting, held at Obasanjoโ€™s penthouse residence within the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library in Abeokuta, Ogun State, was led by the factional chairman of the party, Alhaji Kabiru Turaki, SAN. The closed-door engagement reportedly lasted about 40 minutes.

Those in attendance included the PDP Board of Trustees Chairman and former Senate President, Senator Adolphus Wabara; the National Secretary, Alhaji Taofeek Arapaja; former governors Babangida Aliyu of Niger State and Jonah Jang of Plateau State, as well as other key party leaders.

Speaking after the meeting, the partyโ€™s National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, said Obasanjo urged the PDP leadership to uphold discipline as a core value in rebuilding the party. According to him, the former president stressed that internal discipline remains critical to effective party administration and long-term stability.

Ememobong described the interaction as consultative, noting that discussions focused on the state of the nation, the future of democracy and the need for unity within the party as it prepares for upcoming electoral contests.
