The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, has conferred the Yeye Asiwaju title on Nigeriaโ€™s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, in recognition of her service, leadership contributions and support for cultural development within the Yoruba nation.

Speaking at the ceremony in Ile-Ife, the Ooni described the First Lady as a symbol of dedication whose work in public service and advocacy for women has earned her respect across communities. He noted that the traditional honour reflects both her impact and the palaceโ€™s appreciation of her steady engagement with national issues.

In her response, Mrs Tinubu expressed gratitude to the monarch and the Ife kingdom, saying the title comes with responsibility and a renewed commitment to promoting unity and cultural values. She added that the recognition strengthens her resolve to continue supporting initiatives that uplift families and communities.

The event was attended by traditional rulers, political leaders, women groups and cultural bodies, who commended the Ooni for acknowledging the First Ladyโ€™s contributions.
