Former Kaduna Central lawmaker, Senator Shehu Sani, has faulted the decision of former United States President Donald Trump to designate Nigeria as a โ€œcountry of particular concern,โ€ describing it as a conclusion built on โ€œoutright falsehoods and misleading reports.โ€

Sani, in a statement on Friday, said the designation was the result of โ€œmisinformation spread by anarchists, lackeys, and apprentices of neocolonialismโ€ who aimed to exploit Nigeriaโ€™s internal differences for selfish gain.

He maintained that Nigeria, despite its challenges, remains a secular and diverse nation where religious freedom is constitutionally guaranteed, adding that the label was โ€œa diplomatic insult built on ignorance.โ€

The former senator urged U.S. authorities to rely on credible assessments rather than politically motivated narratives that misrepresent Nigeriaโ€™s realities.
