Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has urged Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde not to be discouraged by criticisms, saying those who attack leaders today often return to praise them later.
Obasanjo spoke on Wednesday while joining Makinde to inaugurate the new Ibadan Central Bus Terminal at Iwo Road. The facility comprises two mega stations with waiting halls, ticketing spaces, eateries, public conveniences, vehicular parking, and elevators.
He described Makinde as an Omoluabi and commended his efforts in developing Ibadan and making it more livable through people-oriented projects. โThose abusing you today will praise you tomorrow,โ Obasanjo said. โI was also abused, and now they praise me. That is how leadership works.โ
The former president said the new terminals at Ojoo, Challenge, and Iwo Road would ease movement within the city and benefit the wider South-West region.
In his remarks, Makinde said his administration had built four modern terminals โ Challenge, Ojoo, New Ife Road, and Iwo Road โ to address transport challenges in the state. He added that the projectโs completion reflected his governmentโs commitment to modernization, despite global setbacks.
Makinde noted, โUnlike my critics who love to blow their trumpets, I have been quietly executing development projects. Todayโs commissioning is proof that promises made can indeed become promises kept.โ
