Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, has announced plans to reintroduce soft loan schemes for teachers in the state, aimed at improving their welfare and enhancing productivity in the education sector.
The governor made the pledge on Tuesday, stating that the initiative will allow primary and secondary school teachers access affordable loans to purchase houses, cars, and motorcycles. According to him, the move is part of broader reforms designed to support educators and strengthen the quality of teaching across Kebbi State.
Idris noted that teachers play a critical role in national development and deserve improved living conditions. He emphasized that the government is committed to creating policies that will ease financial burdens and motivate teachers to perform effectively in classrooms.
The planned loan scheme is expected to be implemented through collaboration with relevant financial institutions, with flexible repayment plans to ensure accessibility for beneficiaries. Stakeholders in the education sector have welcomed the proposal, describing it as a step toward restoring incentives that once boosted morale among teachers.
Officials say further details on eligibility requirements, application processes, and rollout timelines will be released in the coming weeks.
