President Bola Tinubu on Saturday met with Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, at the State House, Abuja, to review security operations in the North-West and the successful rescue of schoolgirls abducted in the state earlier this month.

Idris said the discussion focused on the operation that led to the recovery of students kidnapped from Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga, in Danko-Wasagu LGA, on November 17.

The governor thanked Tinubu for his โ€œdecisive actionโ€ and โ€œunwavering support,โ€ noting that swift mobilisation of security and intelligence agencies followed the Presidentโ€™s directive.

He also commended the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, for coordinating the mission that resulted in the girlsโ€™ rescue on November 26 before they were formally reunited with their families in Birnin Kebbi.

Saturdayโ€™s meeting comes amid a fresh wave of school kidnappings across the North-West and North Central regions.

According to earlier reports, 25 female students were taken during the attack, though one escaped the same day. The incident echoes Nigeriaโ€™s long struggle with mass school abductions, which gained global attention after the 2014 Chibok tragedy.
