The Deputy Chairman of the House Committee on Petroleum Resources (Midstream) and Member representing Kano Municipal Federal Constituency, Hon. Sagir Ibrahim Koki, has resigned from the New Nigeria Peopleโ€™s Party (NNPP), citing persistent leadership crises at the partyโ€™s national level.

Koki announced his resignation on his official X handle on Wednesday, stating that the internal conflicts within the NNPP had made it difficult for him to continue offering effective representation to his constituents.

In his resignation letter addressed to the Zaitawa Ward Chairperson, Koki wrote:
โ€œBy virtue of the right conferred upon me by Section 40 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended), Article 7.1 of the NNPP Constitution and all other relevant extant laws, I do hereby resign my membership of the NNPP effective from Tuesday, the 11th Day of November, 2025.โ€

Koki, who joined the NNPP ahead of the 2023 general elections, won the Kano Municipal Federal Constituency seat, strengthening the partyโ€™s influence in Kanoโ€™s urban political landscape.

Explaining his decision, he said the persistent crisis at the national level had made it โ€œdifficult, if not impossible,โ€ to discharge his legislative duties effectively.

โ€œI thank the party most sincerely for the opportunity accorded me to serve under its platform. The support, trust and experience I have gained during my reign as a member have been invaluable, and I remain deeply grateful to the leadership and members of the party at all levels,โ€ he added.

Kokiโ€™s resignation comes shortly after Ambassador Olufemi Ajadi, a former NNPP governorship candidate in Ogun State, defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), describing his move as a โ€œstrategic and patriotic step toward rebuilding Nigeriaโ€™s unity and hope.โ€
