The Kano State Government has dismissed widespread rumours suggesting an impending security threat, assuring residents that the state remains calm and safe. Authorities described the circulating messages as false, warning the public against promoting panic through the spread of unverified information.
According to a statement issued by the Director-General of Media and Publicity, Sunusi Dawakin-Tofa, there is no credible intelligence pointing to any security breakdown in the state. He said security agencies have jointly assessed the situation and confirmed that all formations are operating effectively.
The government noted that the rumours, mostly shared across social media platforms, were deliberately crafted to create fear among residents. It urged the public to rely only on official communication channels for accurate information.
Dawakin-Tofa added that security agencies remain on heightened alert statewide to ensure continued safety. He warned that individuals found spreading fake news capable of destabilising public peace would face prosecution.
Residents were encouraged to continue their normal activities without fear, as the government reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining peace and order across Kano.
