A former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, has criticised what he calls a vicious and politically-motivated media campaign targeting the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle.

Fani-Kayode, in a statement shared on his official X account on Thursday, described the alleged attacksโ€”purportedly driven by opposition elementsโ€”as โ€œshameless and nauseating.โ€

He praised Matawalle for showing unwavering loyalty to President Bola Tinubu and for his dedication to strengthening Nigeriaโ€™s security architecture. According to him, the ministerโ€™s collaboration with the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, has delivered notable gains in the counter-terrorism fight.

โ€œThe combination of him and NSA @NuhuRibadu has resulted in the killing of more terrorists in the last two years than in the previous eight put together,โ€ he wrote.

The former minister, however, expressed disappointment that government officials rarely publicise these security breakthroughs, arguing that Nigerians deserve to be informed of such progress.

He urged Matawalle to remain steadfast and ignore attempts to discredit him, noting that the ministerโ€™s courage and resilience in confronting enemies of the state continue to earn him respect.
