The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has received its second crude cargo from Ghana as the facility reduces European imports while adjusting its crude mix ahead of major maintenance.
Industry data shows the shipment, carrying Ghanaโs Sankofa grade, arrived in November.
The move signals a stronger shift toward West African and Nigerian crude grades.
According to market tracker Kpler, crude deliveries to the refinery averaged about 380,000 barrels per day between September and November โ roughly 30 per cent lower than peak intake levels recorded in July and August. The reduction is tied to recurring outages and upcoming maintenance schedules on key processing units.
Kpler noted that Novemberโs intake consisted almost entirely of Nigerian grades, led by Bonny Light, with Amenam, Forcados, Utapate, and Qua Iboe also featuring, alongside the new Sankofa cargo from Ghana. The refinery is expected to keep prioritising domestic and regional crude grades, with only limited volumes from other West African suppliers or the United States.
As the refinery fine-tunes operations, its purchases from Europe โ especially from North Sea and Mediterranean markets โ have dropped sharply, creating more room for Nigerian and neighbouring West African grades.
