Fatima Buhari, daughter of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, has revealed that her father once believed his office at the Presidential Villa was under secret surveillance, prompting extreme caution in his interactions.

The revelation is contained in a new book titled From Soldier to Statesman: The Legacy of Muhammadu Buhari, written by Dr Charles Omole, Director-General of the Institute for Police and Security 1Policy Research. The book was unveiled in Abuja on Monday.

According to Fatima, her fatherโ€™s suspicion led them to communicate by writing notes instead of speaking during some meetings, out of fear that conversations in the office were being monitored.

She recounted that on one occasion, Buhari avoided verbal communication entirely and relied on gestures to suggest they write down their messages.

โ€œHe touched his cheek, like he had a toothache, and signalled that we shouldnโ€™t talk,โ€ she said. โ€œWe wrote notes to each other, like spies in a film.โ€
