Bauchi State has commenced the second phase of a major rural infrastructure project, targeting the construction of 203 kilometres of roads to boost agricultural access and stimulate economic activity across local communities.
Speaking at the flag-off ceremony, Governor Bala Mohammed said the initiative is designed to ease transportation challenges faced by rural farmers and improve the movement of goods from farms to markets. He explained that better road networks would reduce post-harvest losses, lower transportation costs and enhance food supply chains within the state.
The governor noted that the project is part of a broader effort to strengthen agricultural marketing and open up remote areas to investment opportunities. According to him, improved connectivity will not only support farmers but also create jobs and promote commerce in underserved communities.
Mohammed added that the state government remains committed to completing the project in line with its development agenda, assuring residents that quality and accountability will guide the execution. He urged communities to support the initiative and protect the infrastructure once delivered.
The Phase II construction forms a key component of ongoing development plans aimed at transforming Bauchi’s rural economy and improving livelihoods ahead of future agricultural growth.
