𝐁𝐚𝐠𝐨 𝐩𝐮𝐬𝐡𝐞𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐥𝐞 𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐦, 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐩𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐞

Niger State Governor, Mohammed Bago, has renewed his call for a single term for elected officials and political appointees, arguing that it would eliminate laziness and promote accountability in governance.

Speaking on Friday during the inauguration of newly nominated commissioners and elected local government chairmen and vice chairmen, Bago said he had deferred decisive actions—including sacking underperforming appointees—because of political considerations tied to re-election.

He stated that some officials had consistently failed in their duties but remained in office because of the “tomorrow” mindset created by multi-term politics.

According to him, a single term would compel appointees and elected leaders to give their best since they would have only “one shot at governance.”

Bago also advocated for state police and community policing, insisting that decentralised security structures would improve safety more than the current centralised policing system.
