Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has expressed deep concern that the Boko Haram insurgency has endured for 15 years, far outlasting the 30-month Nigerian Civil War.

Obasanjo, speaking on Sunday, said it was disturbing that a crisis involving a non-state group has persisted for over a decade and a half despite multiple security interventions. He warned that allowing such a conflict to stretch this long poses serious risks to national stability, development, and public confidence in the countryโ€™s security architecture.

He noted that the comparison between the short duration of the civil war and the prolonged insurgency should prompt urgent reflection and reform in Nigeriaโ€™s approach to internal conflict resolution. Obasanjo stressed that the nation must rethink its strategies if it hopes to bring the insurgency to a decisive and lasting end.
