President Bola Tinubu has cautioned that corruption within the judiciary poses a direct threat to Nigeriaโs democracy, insisting that no meaningful judicial reform can succeed without integrity at its foundation.
Speaking on Monday at the opening ceremony of the 2025 All Nigerian Judgesโ Conference of the Superior Courts in Abuja, Tinubu described the judiciary as the nationโs most dependable stabilising force, especially in times of political and institutional uncertainty.
He emphasised that the strength of any democracy rests on the trust citizens place in the judicial process. According to him, when judicial officers compromise due to corruption or external influence, the entire democratic structure becomes endangered.
โWhenever Nigeria has faced moments of uncertainty, history has recorded that the Judiciary stood firm as the stabilising force of our national life,โ he said, urging judges to protect this legacy by upholding honesty and discipline.
Tinubu also reaffirmed his administrationโs commitment to supporting judicial reforms aimed at improving efficiency, transparency and public confidence. He noted that while government can provide infrastructure and policy direction, the true success of reforms depends on the ethical conduct of those who interpret and apply the law.
The President encouraged judicial officers to remain steadfast in defending the rule of law and delivering justice without fear or favour, adding that the credibility of the courts remains essential to national stability and democratic progress.
