Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has issued a stern warning to community leaders across the state, declaring that any village head whose area is linked to vandalism of public infrastructure may lose official recognition from the government.

The governor gave the warning while addressing stakeholders, stressing that the destruction of government facilities undermines development efforts and wastes public resources meant to improve the lives of residents. He said traditional rulers and village heads must take greater responsibility for safeguarding projects within their communities.

According to him, the state has invested heavily in roads, schools, healthcare centres and other public infrastructure, and acts of vandalism will no longer be tolerated. He urged local leaders to work closely with security agencies and youths to protect public property and report suspicious activities.

Eno also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to community development but noted that continued support would depend on cooperation from local authorities. He emphasised that protecting government assets is a shared responsibility between citizens and leadership at the grassroots level.

Residents were encouraged to see public facilities as collective property that should be preserved for future generations, while warning that anyone found sabotaging government investments would face the full weight of the law.
