Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir el-Rufai, has said he does not share any personal or political alignment with President Bola Tinubu, describing their relationship as โparallel linesโ that would never meet.
Speaking during a recent interview, el-Rufai stated that although both men have operated within Nigeriaโs political landscape for years, their paths and political philosophies have remained largely different. He noted that his past support for certain political decisions should not be interpreted as a personal alliance, stressing that his choices were driven by strategy rather than loyalty to individuals.
The former governor also reflected on developments within the ruling All Progressives Congress, saying internal disagreements and policy directions have created clear divisions among key political actors. According to him, political cooperation does not necessarily translate to friendship or long-term partnership.
El-Rufaiโs remarks have sparked reactions across political circles, with analysts suggesting the statement could signal widening cracks within existing alliances ahead of future elections. Supporters of the President, however, have downplayed the comment, insisting that differing opinions are normal in a democratic setting.
As discussions continue, observers say the evolving relationships among major political figures may shape coalition building and campaign strategies in the coming years.
