Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has called for an urgent investigation into the reported attack on former presidential candidate Peter Obi, warning that rising political hostility could threaten Nigeria’s democratic stability.

The Kogi Central lawmaker, in a statement on Wednesday, condemned the incident and urged security agencies to act swiftly to identify those responsible. According to her, acts of intimidation or violence against political figures must never be tolerated in a democratic society.

Akpoti-Uduaghan stressed that Nigerians deserve a political environment where leaders and citizens can express their views freely without fear. She noted that the growing tension within the political space ahead of future elections makes it imperative for authorities to demonstrate zero tolerance for politically motivated attacks.

Also reacting, former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, reportedly expressed concern over the development, calling on stakeholders across party lines to promote dialogue and restraint. He warned that inflammatory rhetoric and hostility could deepen divisions and undermine national unity.

While details surrounding the alleged attack remain unclear, the senator insisted that a transparent investigation would help restore public confidence in the country’s security institutions. She added that safeguarding democratic values requires accountability and swift justice whenever threats to political actors arise.

Security agencies have yet to issue an official statement as of the time of filing this report, but political observers say the incident has intensified calls for improved protection of public figures and stronger measures against political violence.
