Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has spoken on his recent confrontation with a naval officer, A.M. Yerima, over a disputed property allegedly belonging to former Chief of Naval Staff, Awwal Zubairu Gambo.

Speaking before the FCT Executive Council on Thursday, Wike accused Gambo of abusing power by deploying serving naval personnel to guard a private property, which he said obstructed lawful operations of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA).

The minister, reacting to criticism over his presence at the site, said he would not fold his arms while government officials carrying out their duties were being attacked or intimidated.

According to him, “No retired military officer should use serving personnel to interfere with government work. I will not sit and watch public officers being assaulted in the course of their lawful duties.”
