Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has reaffirmed his administrationโ€™s commitment to empowering women through leadership, equity, and inclusion, describing these as essential pillars for achieving sustainable progress.

Speaking at a womenโ€™s leadership and development conference held in Lagos on Thursday, Sanwo-Olu said his government remains focused on creating an environment that enables women to thrive in governance, entrepreneurship, and innovation. He noted that no society can achieve true progress without the active participation and empowerment of women.

The governor highlighted several initiatives introduced by his administration to support women, including business grants, mentorship programmes, and leadership development schemes aimed at enhancing womenโ€™s contributions to the stateโ€™s economic growth.

According to him, โ€œLagos is a city that believes in equal opportunity. We have continued to implement policies that ensure women are represented in leadership, both in the public and private sectors. Empowering women is not a privilege; it is a necessity for the advancement of our society.โ€

Sanwo-Olu also commended the Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation for its efforts in providing skill acquisition programmes that have helped thousands of women across the state become self-reliant.

He urged corporate organisations and development partners to collaborate with the government in promoting gender inclusion and ensuring that women have access to resources and opportunities needed to achieve their full potential.

The event was attended by women leaders from various sectors, members of the Lagos State Executive Council, and representatives of civil society organisations, who praised the governorโ€™s efforts in promoting gender equity and inclusive governance.
