𝐑𝐞𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭 𝐕𝐈𝐏𝐬 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐩𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐞𝐬𝐜𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐬, 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐲 𝐮𝐫𝐠𝐞𝐬 𝐍𝐢𝐠𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐧𝐬

The Presidency has advised Nigerians to help track compliance with President Bola Tinubu’s directive ordering the withdrawal of police escorts from VIPs. The call was made to ensure that security personnel are reassigned to essential policing duties rather than private protection.

Daniel Bwala, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communication, made the appeal during a TVC interview on Sunday. He encouraged citizens to document any violations of the order by capturing photos or videos of individuals still being escorted by police officers.

“If you identify a celebrity, a private sector individual, or anyone still moving around with police against the executive order, capture evidence as much as you can,” Bwala said.

He clarified that the withdrawal does not cover all public officials, noting that certain strategic figures in government will retain security protection where necessary. However, such protection may come from other agencies.

“It could be SSS, Civil Defence and not the police who will be there to help you. But police have no business being with you,” he explained.

Bwala stated that the measure aligns with the administration’s broader plan to optimise police deployment and strengthen public safety. By reducing the number of officers assigned to VIPs, more personnel can be returned to core policing roles nationwide.
