The Kebbi State Government has faulted Senator Garba Maidokiโs recent comments on insecurity and development projects, describing his statements as misleading and aimed at discrediting ongoing efforts.
In a statement issued on Sunday by Abdullahi Idris, Special Adviser on Communication and Strategy to Governor Nasir Idris, the government said Maidokiโs remarks followed the abduction of students of Government Girls Secondary School, Maga, in Sakaba Local Government Area.
Idris, also known as Sadaukin Zuru, countered the senatorโs claims that 200 communities had been displaced by banditry, stating that government records showed about 50 affected communities along the WasaguโSakaba axis had been successfully returned home through coordinated security operations.
He explained that military deployments and field strategies were centrally directed by Defence Headquarters, with the governor fully involved and providing necessary logistics support.
The statement highlighted several security interventions, including the provision of over 100 Hilux vehicles, 5,000 motorcycles, and the hosting of major security conferences attended by traditional rulers, military chiefs, and academics.
On infrastructure, the government noted that reconstruction of the long-abandoned federal KokoโZuru road was ongoing under the Idris administration, insisting that Senator Maidoki was aware of the progress.
The government also accused the senator of opposing viable projects and failing to participate in stakeholder engagements organised for communities affected by insecurity. It alleged that Maidoki was involved in political alliances aimed at undermining the APC-led administration.
โWe are not surprised by his posture in view of his alleged alliance with ADC governorship aspirant Abubakar Malami,โ the statement said, adding that both politicians had resorted to media attacks and political declarations at a time authorities were focused on rescuing the abducted schoolgirls. It also noted the recent visit of Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, as part of ongoing rescue efforts.
The statement reaffirmed that the APC in Kebbi remained united, stressing that political interests would not distract the governmentโs commitment to citizensโ welfare.
Kebbi State continues to battle security challenges, especially in the Zuru Emirate, where several communities have faced recurring attacks. The recent abduction in Maga has increased public pressure on both state and federal authorities to strengthen their response.
