Nigerian comedian Freedom Okpetoritse Atsepoyi, popularly known as Mr Jollof, has tendered a public apology after engaging in a heated confrontation with online activist VeryDarkMan during a recent flight.
Mr Jollof, in a video shared on his social media pages, admitted that the altercation was unnecessary and expressed regret for his actions, saying he allowed emotions to get the better of him. He stressed that as a public figure, he should have exercised restraint despite longstanding disagreements with VeryDarkMan.
The comedian explained that tensions escalated after both men boarded the same flight, leading to an argument that quickly drew attention from other passengers and airline staff. He noted that the incident was embarrassing and did not reflect the values he stands for.
Mr Jollof further acknowledged the concerns raised by fans and colleagues, assuring them that he is committed to conflict resolution and positive conduct going forward. He also apologised to the airline and passengers affected by the disruption.
VeryDarkMan, known for his outspoken commentary on public issues, has yet to publicly respond to the apology as of press time. The incident has since sparked conversations online about the growing trend of social media disputes spilling into real-life confrontations.
