Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State has rejected claims suggesting that Christians in Nigeriaโ€™s South-East are victims of a religious genocide, describing such assertions as false and misleading.

Soludo made the statement while responding to former U.S. President Donald Trumpโ€™s recent comments alleging persecution of Christians in the region. He said the security challenges in the South-East are not religiously motivated but largely rooted in socio-political and criminal factors.

According to him, โ€œThe killings in the South-East are not about religion. They are largely perpetrated by misguided elements within our communities. Christians are killing Christians, not Muslims attacking Christians.โ€

The governor urged international figures and observers to verify claims before making statements capable of inflaming tensions or distorting Nigeriaโ€™s complex realities.

He also reaffirmed his administrationโ€™s commitment to peace, justice, and security, noting that ongoing efforts by regional governors are aimed at restoring stability and rebuilding trust among citizens.
