The BBC is facing mounting pressure over its handling of an edited clip from US President Donald Trumpโ€™s campaign speech, which his team says was โ€œmaliciously misleading.โ€ The broadcasterโ€™s outgoing director-general, Tim Davie, defended his journalists on Tuesday, saying the network would โ€œreview the situation carefully but stands by its editorial standards.โ€

Trumpโ€™s lawyers had threatened legal action, accusing the BBC of โ€œintentional distortionโ€ after the edited segment appeared to omit key remarks about immigration and crime. The BBC later acknowledged the clip โ€œdid not reflect the full contextโ€ but denied any political intent.

The controversy comes as Trump ramps up his re-election campaign and renews claims of media bias. Analysts say the dispute underscores the increasing tension between global news outlets and the Trump campaign as the 2026 U.S. elections draw nearer.
