Prince Adetokunbo Kayode (SAN), former Minister of Defence, has urged graduating students of the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), to complement their academic qualifications with practical skills. Speaking at the universityโs convocation ceremony in Ondo State, Kayode stressed that certificates alone are no longer sufficient to guarantee success in todayโs highly competitive job market.
He advised the graduates to seek continuous learning opportunities, including vocational training, internships, and entrepreneurial experiences, to enhance their employability and adaptability. According to him, blending formal education with practical skills will prepare them for the challenges of the modern workforce and give them a competitive edge.
Kayode also encouraged the graduates to maintain integrity, discipline, and a strong work ethic as they step into their professional careers. โYour certificate opens the door, but your skills and character determine how far you will go,โ he said.
The former ministerโs remarks were met with applause from students, faculty, and guests, highlighting the growing recognition of skills acquisition alongside academic excellence as a key factor in national development.
